Presidents Welcome
Massachusetts High School Football Coaches,
Happy Football Season!
I hope this letter finds you healthy and excited for a new season of high school football. As the President of Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Association, I write to you today to express my gratitude for the exceptional leadership from all the previous Presidents of this esteemed association. I can only hope to lead this association in a way befitting the great sport we all love and those men who have served before me.
Under the guidance and unwavering commitment to excellence, our association has achieved remarkable milestones and consistently upheld its mission of fostering the growth and development of high school football coaches across the state. We have all seen the good that can result when caring coaches put their minds together to promote high school football. Having attended monthly meetings for the past 8 years, I have seen numerous examples of dedication, creativity, and resolve despite the numerous national and local obstacles that have arisen. We are stronger for having gone through these times, and it is my hope that the years ahead continue to see the growth of the sport and the association.
The MHSFCA has consistently demonstrated a remarkable ability to bring together coaches from various backgrounds and experiences, creating a collaborative and supportive community. The clinics, seminars, and training sessions organized under our leadership have been instrumental in enhancing our coaching skills. And promoting best practices based upon national research helps Massachusetts coaches stay at the national forefront of player safety measures.
The association continues its relentless efforts in advocating for our student-athletes. As Dave Moura stated last year, our emphasis on character development, sportsmanship, and ethical coaching promoted by our leadership and individual association members showcases our belief in the positive impact of sport. When coaches demonstrate discipline and integrity in all we do then we improve our sport and pave the way for future coaches--some of them players on our squads right now--and show them that there are right ways to lead. Further, we show that success is not always judged solely on won/loss records, but by the character of those involved in the game.
I also want to continue the great work of my predecessors to show that our connection to other high school associations and schools is vital in the football community. I firmly believe that this spirit of connecting with numerous sports and the wide array of schools in the state is something that should emphasize in the future. I hope some of you will feel empowered to suggest creative ways we can keep building from the association’s previous fine work in this area.
My hope for the upcoming academic year is to continue to try my very best to motivate coaches to strive in keeping our association on its clear and well established path of excellence. Each year, the executive committee establishes communication throughout the summer and prepares to support the MIAA football committee to present a fair and equitable playoff tournament to the TMC. Like it was last year, one of our main objectives is to maintain a unified voice as the most powerful way to represent the MHSFCA. We will have further initiatives that I hope can demonstrate how our collective voice makes the association one of the best anywhere.
The MHSFCA provides plenty of opportunities to our membership and the players in this state. Our annual initiatives include: the Divisional & Super 26 All-State Teams, annual Coaches Clinic, the Gold Athletics Scholarship and our Annual Awards Banquet. We will continue to present the Hall of Fame for Head Coaches, The Paul Costello Courageous Player, Assistant Coach of the Year, Media Awards, Youth Coaches Awards, and the Distinguished Service Award. As my predecessor and past presidents have stated many times, “There is plenty of opportunity for coaches to get involved and be more of an active part of the association.” I encourage you to come to our monthly meetings which are held on the second Wednesday of each month at Xaverian High School. Additionally, visit the website, pay your dues, and be informed on all upcoming events, and updates. We, as an executive board, are open to new ideas and need more active coaches on the board representing all parts of the state. Through involvement we will continue to get stronger.
On behalf of the entire Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Association I extend my heartfelt gratitude for your commitment, leadership, and dedication to this great game. I am immensely proud to be a part of this esteemed association, and I look forward to continuing to serve, guide, and support all of your fine coaching work in the year ahead.
Yours sincerely,
