Presidents Welcome
Massachusetts High School Football Coaches,
I would like to welcome you to another year of Massachusetts High School football. It is my honor to serve as president of the Massachusetts High School Football Coaches Association for the 2022-2023 academic year. As in most years, there is much to do and it is my belief our work has never been more important. In this post-pandemic environment, the lessons learned from our great game, both on and off the field, have never been more important to the development of student-athletes. As we embark on the season our hope is you can build a team culture that encourages dedication, discipline, perseverance and sacrifice. A team culture that builds young people through hard work and bonds teammates together for a lifetime. Well beyond wins or a championship, our players should become better people and positive role models in our communities. May the life lessons you teach serve them well and be the true measure of success beyond their playing careers.
As for the MHSFCA, we will continue to build our relationships with coaches statewide, and lobby to promote and improve football in Massachusetts. With this being the final year before modifications can be made to the playoff system, our main focus will be presenting improvements to the playoff system. The executive committee has been in communication throughout the summer and is poised to present changes to the football committee during the September meeting. In addition to the modifications, our goal will be to continue to communicate with coaches across the state. With our game being under such scrutiny, and the number of schools dropping football or forming co-op teams growing, we believe an unified voice is the most powerful way to represent the MHSFCA. Members of the executive committee traveled to Central Ma this past spring to gather input and share ideas. We plan to continue meeting with all areas including a trip West for a regional meeting. We are also exploring the possibility of having the MIAA host a meeting in Franklin, as we continue to build a strong working relationship.
In addition to these goals for the year, the MHSFCA provides plenty of opportunities to our membership and the players in this state. Our annual initiatives include; the Divisional & Super 26 All-State Teams, Shriners Football Classic All-Star game, Athletic Combine, Coaches Clinic, the Gold Athletics Scholarship and our Annual Awards Banquet. We will continue to present; Hall of Fame for Head Coaches, The Paul Costello Courageous Player, Assistant Coach of the Year, Media Awards, Youth Coaches Awards, and Distinguished Service Award. There is plenty of opportunity for coaches to get involved and be more of an active part of the association. At a minimum, please visit the website to not only pay your dues, but to be informed on all upcoming events, and updates. We are open to new ideas and need more active coaches on the board. The success of the Divisional All-State Teams in 2021 is proof we are evolving and looking to do more.
Our mission states: “The MHSFCA is dedicated to serving the needs of Massachusetts High School Football.” In today's world the “needs” are certainly changing. We have talented coaches throughout the state that have much to offer. I would encourage you to find a way to get involved. I started to attend the monthly meetings 6 years ago and quickly developed an appreciation for the men who have been carrying the torch for so long, but more importantly, I value their friendship and genuine passion for Massachusetts football through their stewardship.
I would like to thank the MHSFCA for the opportunity to represent the association and wish all the coaches a safe and successful season.
Sincerely,
Tom Bingham
